thousands of rummy points

Scuba Man and I bought a pop-up camper in 1995.  We used to go camping several times each summer.  With camping comes a lot of down time.  One of the ways we used that down time is playing rummy.

The camper was sold many years ago, but the rummy game still continues.  We’ve kept playing the same game since then, keeping score on the same pad we used back then.

We each have tens of thousands of points.  We tease that we play 500,000 rummy instead of 500 rummy.  Who is winning at any given time gets the bragging rights.

We go in spurts playing the game.  Sometimes we won’t play for several months, then sometimes we’ll play every day.  Here at the beach, we have played every day.

We talk while we play.  It’s so easy to converse when you are sitting across from each other and the only distraction is the cards.  It’s fun.  It’s a different way for us to connect.  It’s a way to reminisce when we think about all the times and places we’ve played the game.

This same game will go on until our hands are too shaky to hold the cards, our eyes can no longer see them, or our brains no longer remember the rules.

It’s a great way to relax, play and communicate at the same time!

I love rummy! My aunt and I always play rummy when we visit each other. Rummy and mahjong (the 4 player, Asian mahjong, which is actually pretty similar to rummy or gin).
