today was baby shower day

It was baby shower day for my niece Tiffany today.  I actually had a fun time.

I usually hate these kind of things.  I wasn’t looking forward to it at all, but it was for my sweet niece, one of my two “daughters”, and I just couldn’t miss it.

The food was awesome and there was so much of it!  We play games that were fun, not lame.  Her sister had done a little online searching to find them.  She got lots of great gifts.

But one of the best parts was seeing Lisa, one of Tiffany’s best friends from high school.

We had lived close to my sister when the kids were growing up, so we knew most of their friends, especially their best friends.  Some still call me Aunt Shell, and I still keep in touch with them.

I hadn’t seen Lisa in probably 12 years.  This was a girl that I pretty much watched grow up beside my niece.  We had even taken her on a family vacation with us.  She was such a sweet, happy girl.

It’s nice to find out she still is.  Seeing her brought back so many good memories of those years.  The years when the kids lives revolved around their school friends and their family.  When sitting down to a family dinner was the norm instead of the exception.

Lisa hasn’t changed at all.  She is still as pretty as she ever was.  She is also a mom now, with a 2 1/2-year-old little boy and a 6 month old little boy.  Both look like her and both are adorable.

It was just so good to see her!  Tiffany loved having her there.  Seeing them talking and laughing together, just like they used to, was so heart warming.

Sometimes, the simplest gifts are the best.  Lisa taking the time to drive up for the shower was one of the best gifts of all.  Not just for my niece, but for the whole family.

You’re right Shell – the simplest gifts are the best. I think you all had a very special day with special people around you. Can’t get better than that!
