The beach house is looking much more homey now. We spent yesterday putting up new curtains.
We have had these ugly, fake wood, 1 inch slat blinds up in the house since we bought it. They were white, or were supposed to be if they hadn’t yellowed with age. We left them in place because the rental company said it was easier than having curtains when dealing with renters. On course, some renters being bad renters, we ended up with broken slats at the end of every rental season.
When we decided not to rent any more, one of the first things we talked about was getting rid of those eyesores. Yesterday, we did it! Scuba Man did the hard work of taking them down and I carted them to the deck. He then put up new brass curtain rods and I washed and hung the new sage green curtains.
I love these curtains. They are faux silk and kind of crinkly. They are thick enough to give us privacy when closed, but thin enough to move with a breeze. They bring out the green in the print pattern on the living room chairs. They are perfect!
After we finished putting everything up, we took out 3+ years worth of frustration with those blinds by smashing them with a hammer in the trash bin. It was rather fun!
It amazes me how just that one change can make so much of a difference. When we walk in the front door now, it no longer looks like a rental house. It looks like a home, and it is. A home filled with lots of love, laughter, and happiness.
