my newest grand-niece

I would like to introduce you to my newest grand-niece, Ashlynn Reese.  Isn’t she adorable?

She was born August 31 at 10:13 am.  She weighed 8 pounds 11 ounces and is 18 inches long.

I have to say, when Daddy came out of surgery and said her weight, we all were floored.  My niece is so tiny, that all of her kids have had to be born via C-section.  We could not believe she had such a big baby!

The hospital she gave birth in is really cool.  They bring the baby from surgery right into the room.  Everyone got to watch as they checked her vitals and did all the things they usually do to newborns in the nursery.  Then Daddy got to hold her a second time.  To see that was so special.  My niece has two children from a previous marriage and her husband is an awesome dad to them. Holding his own child in his arms and seeing the look on his face was just pure love.

After going back to work on Thursday and Friday, we drove back to Culpeper and spent Friday and Saturday night at my sister’s.  All day Saturday was spent at my niece’s house.  It was the first time in a week that her other two children were home, and she was so very happy.  Her husband took care of the kids since she couldn’t get around much.  He is so very good to them.  I don’t think people would ever know he wasn’t their biological father if it weren’t for the fact they don’t call him daddy.

He and I were sitting alone at the kitchen table, the night before Ashlynn was born.  We were talking about the kids and he looked at me and said ‘I just love them so much!’  I can tell he feels the same way about my niece.  I am so happy they found each other!
