It’s not all fun and games when we come to the beach. Scuba Man says it’s like an in between. When we take a week off and stay in Richmond, it’s not like a vacation at all. When we take a week off and go somewhere like Cozumel, it’s a real vacation. But when we take a week off and go to the beach, it’s in between the two.
We don’t have the hectic life of Richmond while we’re here. We don’t feel the need to do much at all, but we also don’t have the full vacation mode, either. There are things we have to do. We’re here so often that we don’t eat out every day any more. We cook most of the time. It’s not elaborate meals or anything like that, it’s mostly quick meals just so we don’t spend the money to eat out all the time.
It’s different on a real vacation, as I don’t have to cook at all. Or clean up. We usually go to all-inclusive places, so the food and drink are included. On a real vacation, we sightsee and do the touristy things. Here, we don’t really do that, maybe because we’ve seen it all. Just like in Richmond, we only do the touristy thing when we have visitors.
Here, we have lots of time to read, relax, and walk on the beach. But, it’s also a home for us, so we have maintenance and upkeep. It takes away from the spirit of a real vacation when you need to do laundry and clean the house. It also takes away from vacation when you have plumbing repairs.
Last time we were here, we noticed the kitchen sink faucet leaking when we turned it on. Leaking, heck! If we turned it on too fast, the water would come shooting out of the base of the spigot! I got wet more than once, along with the counters and floor.
Before heading down this time, we took a trip to Lowes to buy a new faucet set. The one that was here looked to be very old, so we decided to replace it and not repair it. Plus, I like the new one better. I like my hot and cold water spigots to be separate, not in one handle.
As I was showering the other day, I heard noise coming from the kitchen. I didn’t really pay that much attention to it. I thought Scuba Man was cleaning up. I was wrong. He was taking out the old faucet and putting in the new.
My husband is not the most handy type person when it comes to household repairs, but he really tries. He did a wonderful job! No leaks, no disasters, he even read the directions! I am so proud of him and the wonderful job he did.
But, needless to say, it does put a bit of a damper on the vacation frame of mind. It’s something we need to get used to. After all, when we finally can afford to move here full-time, it’s no longer going to be our vacation home. It will just be home.
