Happy Veterans Day to all those who have served or are serving in our military. Thank you for helping to protect and defend the freedom of our country, and other countries.
I am a very proud wife, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend of veterans. When I think of the veterans I know, I can’t help but be proud. It’s not the easiest job to have.
The military doesn’t pay a lot of money for the enlisted folks. They can rarely set down roots when they change duty stations so many times during their career. They are sent on hardship tours where they can’t take their family.
They are sent to war.
Both of my sisters were Army wives. My one brother-in-law missed the birth of his first child because he was in training and couldn’t be there. My other brother-in-law is more like an older brother. I saw first hand the nights of duty he had to pull, the physical training, and a lot of what it is like to be a service family. Twice, he was stationed near home and I spent a lot of time with my sister.
The worse time was when he was sent overseas for Desert Shield. I was scared to death for him. I could never imagine what my sister was going through! She is a much braver person than I think I would be.
I met Scuba Man right after he got out of the Army after serving for more than 11 years. I kind of knew what that life was like for him. But I don’t think I could ever have been an Army wife. It is so not me! I met him at just the right time. 🙂
On this day, all Americans should hug the veterans they know and tell them THANK YOU! Without them, this country’s freedom would be at risk.

The milatary do a great job. Yesterday in the UK they remembered thos who had died in action.
When we stopped our daily activities yesterday at 11am and observed the 2 minutes silence I reflected not only on the dead, but also on the living. The parents who had lost their sons, and for what? With sons of my own the pain must be too great to bear at times.

In May, we have what is called Memorial Day, a day to honor and remember those who gave their lives for our country. I think they’re both very important days. Unfortunately, a lot of people look on these holidays as just another day off of work.
I too turned and faced Versailles at 11:11 for two minutes to remember WWI. My paternal grandfather was both a pilot and engineer for the Air Force, and both my uncle and aunt do intelligence work with the Air Force.
